How your Donation helps HOPE

HOPE Services Hawaii depends upon the generosity of the community to meet the needs of the families and individuals we serve. 100% of these private donations go directly to client services. We also receive in-kind donations through volunteerism and non-cash items, for example 3,390 individual meals were donated to HOPE since January 2011 to today. (Volunteers also prepared the meals and brought them to our program sites for our outreach consumers and shelter residents.)  Each gift, whether it is monetary or your time and effort is greatly appreciated and provides meaningful assistance!

How your donations helped ...July 2010 - June 2011!

  • TANF Housing Program provided assistance to 219 households (898 people) to help them move into their own housing!
  • 60% of those assisted were housed straight from living in unsheltered situations (i.e. cars & parks) into rentals.
  • Donations of new move-in items such as blankets, pillows, pots/pans, toiletries and furniture have helped these families start off in their new rental units with a solid foundation without them having to worry about basic necessities that they will need when placed in permanent housing.
  • We served an average of 420 meals at our shelters per week for a total of 21,840.
  • We kept 100% of our children in school and provided a robust after school program for them throughout the year.
  • 915 new and “gently used” books were donated to our shelter and outreach keiki this year to increase literacy.
  • We transitioned 400 single men and women and 71 families staying at shelter into stable housing.
  • Placed 41 new clients that were chronically homeless into permanent supportive housing units throughout the Island of Oahu.
  • Helped 55 persons achieve, maintain or enhance employment.
  • Rummage Sale donors contributed items such as: clothing, kitchen supplies, dvd’s and more to help HOPE raise money to assist unsheltered consumers.
  • In 2010 - 46 volunteers donated 11,163 hours of their personal time at HOPE!
  • In 2011 so far -97 volunteers donated 17,568 hours of their personal time at HOPE completing various tasks such as: meal preparation, clerical support, reception, sorting donations and more!
  • There are several ways that you can be a hero for HOPE:
